Requirements

Native (Live) Acquisition — LLIMAGER-win

  • A local admin password for the Windows computer to be imaged.
  • LLIMAGER-win USB disk: containing a copy of the imager executable (LLIMAGERW.exe) and the required license file (llimagerw.lic), both in folder "llimagerw".
  • Destination USB disk: external disks formatted with exFAT are recommended, for compatibility across operating systems. Any Windows-writable partition format will work.

Storage Requirements Reference Table (E01 images)

Source Disk Size Source Space Used Min. Destination Size
500 GB 50 GB 55 GB
500 GB 400 GB 440 GB
2 TB 120 GB 132 GB

The destination disk should have free space equal to or greater than the source device's used space plus 10%.

Note: the used space on this table above includes data sitting on the unallocated space, as E01 images included the unallocated. DD images will need the entire source disk size.

Dead-Box Acquisition — LLIMAGER Linux (Ventoy Boot)

  • The same LLIMAGER-win USB drive, prepared with Ventoy, containing the bootable Debian live ISO.

  • The target machine must support booting from external USB media (with UEFI boot enabled; Secure Boot may need to be temporarily disabled depending on the hardware — see Troubleshooting). In some cases, notably on newer computers, disabling Secure Boot when using BitLocker triggers a screen asking for the recovery key before booting (even when the system disk is not being used to boot). In those cases, performing a live image of the entire system disk is the next best solution.

  • Destination USB disk — same sizing guidance as above.

  • An external USB mouse (and keyboard, if applicable) is required when imaging T2-equipped Intel Macs in the dead-box environment, due to hardware-level input blocking during external boot.

  • A valid license file (llimagerw.lic), matching one of the three license types described in Licensing — Trial, Portal-Trial, or Standard. Your license type determines which Home screen modules are available. Licence should be placed inside folder "llimagerw".
