Licensing¶
LLIMAGER-win runs under one of three license types. The license type is set by the license file (llimagerw.lic) you were issued and determines which of the six Home screen modules are available, and how your reports and images are marked.
| License Type | Modules Available | Report / Image Marking |
|---|---|---|
| Trial | Disk Image and Targeted Collection only | Hash values masked in reports; images and reports marked "not valid for evidentiary use" |
| Portal-Trial | Disk Image and Targeted Collection only | Full hash values shown; reports carry a mild "Portal Trial License" note |
| Standard | All six modules | No restrictions or notices |
Trial¶
A Trial license is a short-term evaluation license. It is intended to let you explore the interface and workflow before purchasing a Standard license, and its output is not intended for case use.
Under a Trial license:
- Dead Box, Convert/Hash, Send to Cloud, and Verify & Anchor Images are unavailable. Selecting any of these on the Home screen displays a message stating the feature requires a Standard license.
- Disk Image and Targeted Collection remain available, but with restrictions:
- Hash values (MD5/SHA-1/SHA-256) are masked in the generated report rather than shown in full.
- Sign & seal is skipped — reports are not cryptographically signed.
- Both the report and the image itself (for EWF/E01 output) carry a notice stating the image was produced under a trial license and is not valid for evidentiary use.
Portal-Trial¶
A Portal-Trial license is issued through the LLSmartVerify portal, typically for demonstrations or short-term customer evaluations coordinated through the portal rather than a direct trial download.
Under a Portal-Trial license:
- The same module restriction applies as with a Trial license — Dead Box, Convert/Hash, Send to Cloud, and Verify & Anchor Images are unavailable, with an explicit message shown rather than a silent lock.
- Unlike a plain Trial license, Disk Image and Targeted Collection work at full functionality: hash values are shown in full, and sign & seal runs normally.
- Reports carry a brief "Portal Trial License" note rather than the harsher trial warning — this documents how the image was acquired without implying the image itself is invalid.
Standard¶
A Standard license is a full commercial license tied to a specific licensed disk. All six modules are available with no restrictions, and reports and images carry no trial-related notices.
Checking Your License Type¶
If selecting Dead Box, Convert/Hash, Send to Cloud, or Verify & Anchor Images displays a message that the feature is not available under your license, your current license is either Trial or Portal-Trial. If you believe your license should not be restricted, confirm your license file with your e-Forensics account representative.
Note: the Dead Box module opens an in-app screen with an overview, boot instruction lookup, and imaging configuration — but the actual reboot and acquisition are performed independently, in the LLIMAGER Linux live environment. See Dead Box Imaging (Linux Boot).
